Preen ("we", "us") is an AI styling app that lets you preview hairstyles, hair colors, makeup and looks on your own photo. This policy explains what data we handle and why. The short version: your photos are used only to create the results you ask for, are deleted from our servers quickly, are never sold, and are never used by us to train AI models.
Photos you submit. When you start a try-on or analysis, your photo is uploaded over an encrypted connection to our cloud storage (Google Firebase) and passed to our AI image processor (fal.ai) solely to generate the result you requested. Uploaded photos are automatically deleted from our servers within 24 hours; generated results are deleted from our servers within 7 days. Your gallery of results is stored locally on your device, not in the cloud.
Your photos naturally contain your face. This section states exactly how that data is handled.
2.1 What we collect. Only the photo you explicitly choose for a try-on or an analysis. We do not scan your library, and the app never captures photos on its own. We do not create face templates, faceprints, embeddings or any other biometric identifier from your photo, and we do not extract or store facial geometry.
2.2 How we use it. Exclusively to generate the result you requested: either an edited image (a new hairstyle, color or look rendered on your photo) or a styling analysis (face shape, features, colour season and styling suggestions). The photo is not used for any other purpose.
2.3 Where it is stored. Your photo is uploaded over an encrypted connection to our Google Firebase cloud storage in the United States, and the edited result is stored in the same place. Your gallery of results is kept only on your device; the analysis report is likewise stored only on your device.
2.4 Who it is shared with. Your photo is passed to fal.ai (a US-based AI image-processing provider) solely so it can render the result you asked for. fal.ai receives the photo only — never your name, email or account details — and acts as our data processor under its Data Processing Addendum, which restricts it to processing the photo on our behalf. It is stored by Google Firebase as described in 2.3. We share it with no one else — not advertisers, not data brokers, not other users. Both providers are bound by their own privacy and security commitments; we do not permit them to use your photo for their own purposes.
2.5 How long it is kept. The uploaded photo is deleted from our servers automatically within 24 hours. The generated result is deleted from our servers within 7 days. Nothing derived from your face persists on our side after that — the only thing we retain from an analysis is an anonymous score that contains no identifier and cannot be linked back to you.
2.6 Deletion on request. You can delete your account and all server-side data at any time from Settings › Delete account, or by following the steps at preen-glowup.web.app/delete-account.
2.7 Your consent. Before the first photo leaves your device, the app shows this information and asks for your explicit agreement. You can read it again at any time from Settings › How AI uses your photo.
We rely on a small set of processors, each receiving only what is necessary and only to provide the service to you: Google Firebase (authentication, storage, cloud functions, crash reporting — United States), fal.ai (AI image processing — United States; receives your photo only for the request you make, see section 2.4), RevenueCat (subscription status — receives no photos), and Apple App Store / Google Play (payments — we never see your payment details).
Uploaded photos: deleted within 24 hours. Server-side results: deleted within 7 days. Generation records (style name, timestamp and a reference to the result file — never the image itself, and the file it points to is deleted within 7 days): kept while your account exists. Deleting the app removes your on-device gallery. Deleting your account (Settings › Delete account, or this page) erases everything we hold about you.
Depending on your location (including under GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your data, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Contact us to exercise any of these rights.
Preen is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above, and where appropriate, notice in the app.
